Herman began his guiding career with one of Tanzania's largest and most respected safari operators, spending over fifteen years leading guests across the Serengeti, into the Ngorongoro Crater, up the slopes of Kilimanjaro, and deep into the remote south. He was considered one of their finest guides — known for his extraordinary animal instincts, his warmth with guests, and his ability to make the wilderness feel intimate even in a convoy of vehicles.

But something nagged at him. With large groups and fixed itineraries, there was always a guest whose passion for birds went unexplored, a family whose children needed more time at a waterhole, a couple whose honeymoon deserved a private moment that a shared vehicle could never provide. The machine was efficient — but it couldn't bend.

So Herman left. He founded Bushmen Safari Adventures with one guiding principle: every trip should be built around the person taking it. No fixed departures, no cookie-cutter routes, no compromise. Just a conversation, a blank map of Tanzania, and a guide who knows every corner of it.

Today, Herman personally designs and leads each safari himself — or carefully selects the guide who is the right fit for each guest. Bushmen Safari Adventures remains intentionally small, because that is the only way to do it properly.
